Twin Cities Choruses

Giving Voice is rooted in the Twin Cities, where we began with just one chorus in 2014.

Now in 2025, Giving Voice offers seven dementia-friendly choruses throughout the Twin Cities, including two culturally specific choruses for people who speak Spanish.

Read on to learn about what a rehearsal is like, where and when we meet, how to join, summer sing-alongs, and how to volunteer

Our Joyful Choral Community

Each Giving Voice Twin Cities Chorus is a community of people living with cognitive changes like Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, their care partners, and dedicated volunteers.

These singers of all abilities come together for weekly rehearsals to learn a new set of songs each semester.

A professional choral conductor leads the rehearsals and fosters an environment of joy and acceptance, where a commonly heard phrase is: "There's no wrong in this room!"

The semester culminates in a performance that highlights the singers' accomplishments and shares with our broader community how music and connection bring joy, meaning, and purpose to people whose lives are affected by dementia.

Warm-Ups

The artistic director leads us in gentle stretching and vocal exercises to warm up and get ready to sing together.

Happy people stretch together, reaching their arms above their heads.

If you have 90 seconds, check out this video that summarizes a typical Giving Voice rehearsal.

This one takes place at House of Hope Presbyterian Church and features the Giving Voice Saint Paul Chorus, but all of our choruses follow a very similar model to create a joyful, welcoming, supportive experience for our singers.

Rehearsal Locations & Schedule

Giving Voice offers five choruses throughout the Twin Cities metro area.

Our Fall 2026 semester will begin at the end of September and run through December.

How to Join

Registration for our Fall 2026 semester will open during the summer for:

  • Duets of people living with cognitive changes like Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia and their care partners. A care partner can be a spouse, a child, a grandchild, a parent, a friend, etc.—anyone who cares about and supports someone on this journey.

  • Long-standing Giving Voice Chorus members singing in honor or memory of a loved one.

  • Dedicated volunteers serving as choral companions and lead rehearsal site volunteers

If you'd like to be notified when registration opens, submit your email address below!

Summer Sing-Alongs

In 2026, we're hosting fun summer sing-alongs to keep our singers connected and give newcomers a chance to check out what it's like to sing in a Giving Voice Chorus. Take a look at the schedule below and RSVP for the sing-alongs you plan to attend! These are free and open to everyone. Bring a friend! Children welcome (with a dedicated grown-up!).
